Cassmer Ward: Serial Entrepreneur | CFO of the Year | Author
Cassmer Ward is no stranger to entrepreneurship, and how one entrepreneurial idea often leads to another. As a serial entrepreneur, Cassmer has launched several businesses including an engineering firm, a property management company, a donut shop, a medical device company and a consulting firm. As a business leader in these startups, Cassmer has shown he understands small business and can quickly turn good ideas into a viable venture.
While launching startups, Cassmer has also enjoyed his role as Adjunct Professor at Queens University, teaching Accounting and Entrepreneurship courses. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Council at the university. Leading classes in a traditional college classroom, Cassmer saw the need for an online educational experience. This realization led him to develop an applied entrepreneurship online course, which is offered to anyone who wants to learn how to become an entrepreneur.
Alongside the online course, Cassmer saw the opportunity to interview entrepreneurs and get them to tell their stories. The web video series that Cassmer hosts, Influencing Entrepreneurs, features forward-thinking entrepreneurs telling their stories of small business success (and failure). Cassmer hosts Influencing Entrepreneurs, and offers this content for free on YouTube, to help aspiring entrepreneurs learn what it takes to find success.
In 2020, Cassmer Ward collected his entrepreneurial and accounting knowledge, and wrote the book, “How Much Does It Cost to Make a Donut? And Other Questions That Make Us Hate Accounting”. Cassmer, often called “The Entrepreneur’s Accountant”, wrote this book in an effort to educate small business owners with practical accounting knowledge that they can apply to their own businesses. Moving beyond debits and credits, “How Much Does It Cost To Make A Donut?” gives entrepreneurs the accounting knowledge they need, without all the technical terms that other resources use.
Before Cassmer started the entrepreneurial journey himself, he earned his North Carolina Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, and he worked for Bank of America. Cassmer’s work led him to earning several accolades during his career, including being an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Honoree; the Charlotte Business Journal 2014 and 2018 CFO of the Year Finalist; the Charlotte Business Journal 40 Under 40 (2012); and a David C. Stephens Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award winner.
In his free time, Cassmer enjoys traveling with friends and family, hiking, and being outdoors.
